Helpful information to help you enjoy your time while in the mountains and preserve the cottage for others to enjoy. Remember you are a guest to the wilderness. Wild life is plentiful and while exciting to observe, they must be respected. Unsecure trash will invite Bears, Raccoons and Coyotes. Open doors, you will be welcoming rodents, snakes and other creatures. Always be mindful of your surroundings as there can be dangerous animals in the WV mountains. *Black Bears *Coyotes *Bobcat *Timber Rattlesnake *Northern Copperhead


Arriving

Turn On Water
During winter months (Oct. – Apr.), water is shut-off in basement. Turn labeled valve on and flip water heater breaker to on. Close faucets in baths and kitchen. Check for leaks!

Adjust Heat Settings
During winter months (Oct. – Apr.), thermostats are set to 60 degrees, adjust as necessary to your comfort.

Walk Interior / Exterior
Review each room and the perimeter of cottage for anything abnormal (pests, storm damage, etc.)

Bedding
Bedding is stored near each bed either in a closet or a cabinet/trunk. Make beds if not already done by cleaners.

Trash
All food scraps, wrappers, snacks, etc. need to be placed in covered trash cans and emptied regularly and most importantly every night before bed. Place trash bags in outside covered can located in bear box.

Food
It is advised that all food be stored in tight containers and not left open on counters or tables. Sealed containers can be found in pantry.


Departing

Turn Off Water
During the winter months (Oct. – Apr.), turn off labeled valve in basement and flip water heater breaker to off. Open faucets in baths and kitchen to prevent pipe burst.

Adjust Heat Setting
During the winter months (Oct. – Apr.), set all thermostats to 60 degrees prior to leaving.

Trash
ALL trash, open food, perishable foods must be in closed bags and placed in covered trash cans found in bear box. Trash pick-up day in Monday.

Bedding / Laundry
Remove all bedding and wash. Ok for last load to be left in dryer if necessary.

Housekeeping
Ensure counters and sinks are wiped down, floors are swept and baths a cleaned out. Trash has been removed. All items have been returned to storage and dishes have been put away.

Walk Interior / Exterior
Double check that everything has been returned to the way it was when you arrived. All windows are shut and locked. Light are off (except labeled lights). All doors are locked. Everything has been put in storage outside. Firepit has been fully extinguished. Grill is cleaned and covered.
